NIUA, under its River Cities Alliance, provided technical support to the Hooghly- Chinsurah Municipality in West Bengal for developing an eco-friendly riverfront. Mr. Manu Bhatnagar (Principal Director, Natural Heritage, INTACH) was engaged as a technical consultant by NIUA. In this regard, a two-member team (including the consultant) visited the municipality in the month of June 2022. A meeting was conducted with the ULB to understand their requirements and work done in this regard. The team visited the river front and made a ferry ride to the riverine island which the ULB wants to develop. The technical support mainly included providing ULB with guidance on developing riverine islands, permissible activities and inputs for conducting the feasibility study and DPR preparation.
